Cultural State Minister Wolfram Weimer is calling for greater transparency in music streaming.
In a statement on Thursday following a meeting with representatives from several pop‑music labels, Weimer said, “We need fair compensation and more transparency in music streaming”. He added that professional musicians should earn significant income from streaming and must be able to trace those earnings. “My discussions with the labels made it clear they are aware of this problem as well” he noted.
All parties agree that industry‑led solutions are the best way forward. Weimer announced that he has invited the labels to join a round‑table at the chancellery over the coming months. At this table, musicians will sit on equal footing with labels and streaming services. His aim is for the participants to jointly develop sustainable solutions that increase fairness in the system and thereby improve the situation for artists.
Weimer had already spoken with pop musicians and songwriters in December 2025. Now the labels are voicing their concerns, and a meeting with music‑streaming services is scheduled for the coming Monday.
