Israel Launches Limited Ground Offensive in Southern Lebanon to Expand Buffer Zone

The Israeli army has launched a “limited and targeted ground offensive” against targets in southern Lebanon.

On Monday it announced that the 91st “Galilee” Regional Division had begun an attack in the eastern sector of the south, resulting in the deaths of several Hezbollah fighters. The operation’s goal is to expand the “forward defense zone”.

This offensive is part of a broader plan to create a buffer zone that keeps the Hezbollah threat at arm’s length from the border. Prior to the troop incursion, the Israeli forces carried out massive air strikes and heavy artillery barrages.

According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, since March 2, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have killed 850 people and injured more than 2,100. The Israeli army is now preparing to station additional forces in southern Lebanon and further expand the buffer zone.
