Israel says it has killed the influential Iranian official Ali Laridzhani, who was targeted by an airstrike, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced on Tuesday.
The Israeli forces also reported that, in a separate attack, the commander of the paramilitary Basij forces-Gholamreza Soleimani-was killed. “Laridzhani and the Basij commander were eliminated overnight” Katz told officials in a briefing, according to Israeli media.
So far there has been no confirmation from Iran. Laridzhani has long been a close ally of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed at the outset of the current conflict. As secretary of Iran’s Security Council, Laridzhani is considered one of the country’s most powerful figures.
