Donald Trump has banned several news agencies and online portals from accessing the White House. He accused these outlets on his personal platform of continuously disseminating “Fake News,” adding that further “fake news media” would follow restrictions.
This ban is part of a broader series of measures undertaken by the Trump administration to impede the work of journalists since the start of his second term. These actions include excluding reporters from press pools, enforcing stricter rules within the Pentagon, and planning to limit the stay of foreign journalists. Simultaneously, information sources are reportedly vanishing due to database deletions.
Legal interference is also part of the strategy, with Trump initiating multiple lawsuits worth billions of dollars against media houses and threatening to revoke licenses of TV broadcasters. In a move that contrasts with the tightening environment, however, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) permitted the merger of several media companies owned by entrepreneurs who, according to the Wall Street Journal, had donated to a network aligned with Trump during the 2024 campaign.
