Former CDU general secretary Mario Czaja has demanded that German lawmakers take action after allegations of widespread misuse of the federal infrastructure special fund.
In the Thursday edition of the “Bild” newspaper, Czaja urged CDU members of the Bundestag to file a lawsuit against the federal budget. “I hope that some principled MPs from my party will now, seeing that even our own minimal targets are no longer being met, pursue an organ lawsuit at the Federal Constitutional Court” he said.
Czaja added that the diversion of the special fund is “more dramatic than I ever imagined”. He warned that the federal government is spending instead of investing and is delaying necessary reforms. “The consequences will be borne by our children and grandchildren” he said.
He echoed the longstanding warning from Wolfgang Schäuble’s political testament: “Politicians should not always be given more money. They are not handling it responsibly enough”.
