During the ongoing discussions regarding the Federal Presidential candidate, Thorsten Frei, the chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, highly endorses Ilse Aigner, the President of the Bavarian State Parliament (CSU), deeming her exceptionally suitable for the role. Speaking to the “Bild” (Thursday edition), Frei stated that Aigner has demonstrated over many decades that she is a “truly excellent figure” in both Bavarian and German politics.
Frei predicts that the chairmen of the CDU and CSU will present a joint nomination in the coming days. Furthermore, he anticipates that this proposed candidate will enjoy broad support extending beyond the Union parties and that she will find acceptance across all of Germany, including among the opposition coalition partners. He concludes that this process should ultimately result in a “very, very good Federal President.”
However, Frei also emphasized that alongside Aigner, there are other “truly excellent women” who are more than capable of handling such a challenging role.
