German Hospitality Revenue Declines 3.9% in January 2026, Despite Flat Nominal Figures.

In Germany, the hospitality sector recorded a 3.9 percent decline in calendar‑ and seasonally adjusted real revenue in January 2026 compared with December 2025. Nominal sales, however, were unchanged from the previous month, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) said on Friday based on preliminary data. When compared with the same month in 2025, real revenue fell 5.0 percent, while nominal revenue actually rose 2.0 percent.

For December 2025, after revising the provisional figures, the hospitality industry posted a real decline of 0.6 percent versus November 2025 (the provisional value had been -1.2 percent). Nominal revenue remained flat compared with November, with a provisional figure of -0.6 percent.

Hotels and other accommodation providers were more affected. In January 2026 they reported a real revenue drop of 3.2 percent and a nominal drop of 2.6 percent versus December. Over the year‑on‑year comparison, real revenue fell 2.8 percent, but nominal revenue increased 1.4 percent.

The catering segment experienced its own shifts. In January 2026, real revenue fell 4.3 percent versus December 2025, while nominal revenue grew 0.9 percent. Compared with January 2025, real revenue declined 5.9 percent and nominal revenue rose 2.4 percent.
