Hertha BSC Thumps Fortuna Düsseldorf 5-2, Climbing to 6th in 2. Bundesliga Standings

The 27th round of the 2. Bundesliga ended with a 5-2 victory for Hertha BSC over Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Düsseldorf opened the scoring in the fourth minute thanks to an own goal by Linus Gechter. Hertha, however, was unfazed and equalised in the 18th minute when Fabian Reese tapped home a pass from Brekalo, catching the goalkeeper off‑guard. A quick counter‑attack in the 26th minute saw Reese score again, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Just before the break, Dawid Kownacki headed in a goal to restore Hertha’s advantage at 3-1. Marten Winkler added a long‑range shot in stoppage time, making the score 4-1 early in the second half.

After the interval, Düsseldorf pushed hard for a comeback. In the 54th minute, Cedric Itten headed home a cross from Appelkamp to pull the score back to 4-2. Despite further attempts, Hertha held firm, defending intelligently and limiting the opponents’ chances. In the fourth minute of added time, Luca Schuler sealed the match with a decisive goal, finalising a 5-2 win for Berlin.

The result leaves Hertha in sixth place and Düsseldorf in eleventh on the table. Düsseldorf’s next game after the international break on 4 April is against Kaiserslautern, while Hertha will face Dynamo Dresden on the same day. In parallel fixtures on Sunday afternoon, VfL Bochum were beaten 2-3 by Holstein Kiel, and Preußen Münster fell 1-3 to 1. FC Magdeburg.
