FDP’s Marie‑Agnes Strack‑Zimmermann Seeks Dual Leadership Partner to Unity the Party

After the entire FDP leadership stepped down, MEP Marie‑Agnes Strack‑Zimmermann said she is open to joining a new dual‑chair arrangement for the party. Speaking to the “Tagesspiegel” on Monday, she explained that “a double top must reach the entire party. For that reason I will carefully evaluate who can best achieve this and which proposal convinces the party”. She added that any partner must be able to carry the party forward in the long term.

She ruled out candidates who might use the upcoming leadership election “to wage factional battles”. “Those who only serve their own ego and do not truly care about the party’s future” she said.

Strack‑Zimmermann noted how much she feels she owes the FDP, saying she wants to help shape the future of organized liberalism. She has already announced her candidacy, a story that several media outlets reported on the same afternoon. As chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Security and Defence, she faces a heavy workload amid the current international climate. Nevertheless, she says she is ready to assume responsibility and, “if the party wishes, to contribute in a dual‑chair format”.
