The Greens have accused the federal government of a lack of planning in social housing. “When it comes to charitable housing, the federal government has neither an overview nor a plan” said Hanna Steinmüller, the Greens’ building‑policy spokesperson, to the “Tagesspiegel” on Tuesday.
In a response to the Greens’ small inquiry, the government said it is presently exploring various options to promote the so‑called new charitable housing regime. However, no data are available concerning companies that have taken advantage of the scheme.
Steinmüller criticized the government’s approach, calling it not only a refusal to act but also political ignorance toward charitable housing, which she views as a key instrument for affordable rent. She questions whether the federal government still intends to uphold the initiative. Last year the charitable housing concept was re‑introduced to increase the supply of social housing.
