German Lawmaker Urges Germany to Co‑Lead New Ukraine War‑Crimes Tribunal.

Robin Wagener, chair of the German‑Ukrainian Parliamentary Group and a member of the Green Party, urged Germany to take an active role in a special tribunal aimed at prosecuting Russian war crimes in Ukraine. In the Berlin Playbook Podcast by POLITICO he said, “Germany, as the strongest EU nation, has a particular responsibility here. Protecting international law means it is essential to punish crimes criminally”.

Wagener stressed that a tribunal is more than symbolic. “The community of states cannot ignore the systematic violation of human rights and international law” he warned. In addition to the special tribunal, he referenced ongoing investigations by the International Criminal Court and Ukrainian authorities.

On the anniversary of the Butschi massacre, he cautioned against normalizing relations with Moscow. “We must stop pretending and refrain from building normal ties with this Russian regime while continuing to support Ukraine” he said.
