Three Killed in Tragic Tree Fall During Easter Egg Hunt Near Flensburg

During a fatal tree fall in a forest area in the municipality of Mittelangeln near Flensburg, an additional person succumbed to their injuries on Easter Sunday. The Flensburg Police Department announced that a total of three people died. The incident occurred around 11 o’clock, when a tree measuring approximately 30 meters fell onto a group of about 50 people who were in the area hunting for Easter eggs. Four individuals were pinned under the tree. At the accident scene, a 16-year-old and a 21-year-old died. The 21-year-old’s daughter, who was ten months old, later passed away in the hospital in Kiel due to life-threatening injuries. An 18-year-old was flown to a hospital in Heide with serious injuries, while other people sustained minor injuries. The group consisted of residents and caregivers from a nearby residential facility. Emergency rescue services were supported by pastoral counselors who provided care to those affected at the scene. Strong wind gusts are currently believed to be the cause of the tree fall, and the police investigation into the exact cause of the accident is ongoing.
