The task force, set up by the coalition parties to help alleviate the burden of gasoline prices, will not receive the required review results from the federal ministries until next week. According to the “Rheinische Post” citing sources within the coalition, the federal government intends to first monitor the further developments in the Persian Gulf and incorporate these into its assessment. It was reported that this further development concerning energy prices must be awaited to gain a realistic picture. Previously, the task force had asked the ministries of Finance and Economics to examine the effectiveness and costs of several measures by this Friday, including a temporary increase in the commuter flat rate, a mobility bonus, lowering the electricity tax for all citizens, the vehicle tax, a price cap, and a windfall profit tax on the profits of oil and gas companies. However, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) dampened expectations for quick measures on Thursday.
