The SPD parliamentary group is voicing opposition to any potential reduction in continued wage payment during the first day of illness. Deputy faction leader Esra Limbacher told RTL and ntv that this is not the party’s goal. On the contrary, she stated, “We are fighting for this paid sickness leave to remain in place”. However, Limbacher also indicated that nothing could be ruled out. She added that merely providing more money will no longer solve all problems in the future. Instead, she emphasized the need for clear structural reforms across the country. According to the SPD deputy faction leader, open discussions are necessary in all sectors, and measures should not be immediately dismissed as impossible.
