The flight attendant union USO has called for a two-day strike against Lufthansa. According to the union, the strike is set to begin on Wednesday, April 15th, at 12:01 AM and conclude on Thursday, April 16th, at 11:59 PM. The USO announced on Monday that all departures operated by Deutsche Lufthansa AG from the airports in Frankfurt and Munich will be affected.
The strike stems from an unresolved wage agreement dispute concerning a new collective bargaining agreement. The union believes that the employer side has not demonstrated sufficient flexibility in negotiations. Harry Jaeger, the USO’s head of wage policy, stated that the high participation rate demonstrated last Friday showed how committed the employees are to advocating for better working conditions. He criticized the employer’s stance, calling it one of intransigence despite public statements of readiness to negotiate at any time.
A key part of the industrial action is a rally scheduled for Frankfurt on Wednesday, coinciding with the celebrations marking Lufthansa’s centenary. Prominent political figures are also expected to attend this event. Joachim Vázquez Bürger, the USO’s chairman, emphasized that Lufthansa bears a special responsibility, particularly given the context of the current anniversary festivities.
