Berlin and Kyiv Agree to Share Digital Battle Data for New Weapon System Development

Germany and Ukraine plan to share digital combat data in the future to develop new weapon systems collaboratively. This agreement was formalized with a letter of intent signed on Tuesday at the Chancellery during government consultations between German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) and his Ukrainian counterpart, Mykhailo Fedorov. Commenting on the plans, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) stated that the arrangement could not be overstated. He added that developing such a system together with Ukraine marks a step toward greater European independence. The agreement forms part of a newly established “strategic partnership” between Berlin and Kyiv. Moving forward, the two nations plan to hold regular strategic consultations regarding security and defense policy, initiating high-level defense consultations, fostering further joint projects, and strengthening defense cooperation.
