Authorities arrested three suspected members of the “Islamic State” terror militia in Chemnitz, Leipzig, and Plauen, according to the State Criminal Police Office on Thursday morning. The individuals, who are reportedly Iraqi citizens aged 26, 40, and 43, are accused of belonging to a terrorist organization abroad.
The two older men were apprehended on Wednesday in Chemnitz and Leipzig by the Police Terrorism Defense Center (PTAZ), following the issuance of arrest warrants by the Dresden Regional Court. During searches of their residences, police seized ten mobile phones, two laptops, two tablets, and various storage media. They are alleged to have served as fighters for IS between 2014 and 2016 and received payment for doing so.
The 26-year-old was arrested earlier, on March 24, in Plauen, also with an outstanding arrest warrant from the Dresden Regional Court. Furthermore, technical evidence was confiscated from that location. He is accused of fighting for IS between January 2016 and May 2017. The investigation by the Saxony Central Office for Extremism, particularly the analysis of the seized data carriers, is ongoing.
