Following the departure of most members from the BSW parliamentary faction in Thuringia, the remaining faction has decided to dissolve itself. The current faction leadership announced on Monday in Erfurt that this dissolution will take place during a meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
The day before the announcement, former high-ranking politicians from the faction established a new political party called “Thüringen Gerecht” (Thuringia Just). Katja Wolf, the former BSW state chairman and deputy minister-president, was elected as the chair of this new group. Infrastructure Minister Steffen Schütz and Steffi Eschrich were appointed as deputies.
The disagreement between the federal party and the leadership in Thuringia had intensified over the past few months, ultimately leading to the departure of the majority of the faction members. Out of an original fifteen parliamentary representatives for the BSW, only two remain. The departing members intend to keep their seats in parliament.
