Manuela Schwesig, the Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (SPD), has reiterated the demand for a special conference involving the state premiers and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU). This meeting is sought to implement further relief measures for citizens amidst the ongoing oil crisis. According to Schwesig speaking to the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” it is critically necessary for the Federal Chancellor to assemble with the state heads of government. She stated, “We need a clear analysis of the economic consequences of the Iran war, both from the Federal Chancellor and the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, along with reliable statements about the countermeasures the federal government intends to take”. The SPD politician noted that while the states’ agreement for a special session of the Bundesrat on Friday was positive, the measures taken thus far are insufficient. “We require further reliefs, for instance, for particularly strained sectors such as freight forwarding and transport”.
