In a thrilling duel in the 2. Bundesliga, SV Darmstadt 98 and SV 07 Elversberg ended their match in a 3-3 draw.
Darmstadt initially took the lead early in the game. In the 14th minute, Patric Pfeiffer scored from a corner kick, putting the hosts ahead. Barely a minute later, Fraser Hornby extended the lead to 2-0 after intercepting a misplaced pass from Zimmerschied and slotting the ball into the net.
Despite the early deficit, Elversberg fought back determinedly. Tom Zimmerschied reduced the gap to 2-1 in the 26th minute, and Maximilian Rohr capitalized shortly after, netting a distance shot to draw level by the 34th minute. Just before halftime, Elversberg completely turned the tide when Lukas Petkov curled a free kick over the wall to make it 3-2.
The second half remained open and intensely contested. Darmstadt finally scored an equalizer in the 51st minute through Fraser Hornby, who scored from close range following a coordinated play with Lidberg, leveling the score at 3-3.
With both teams having crucial chances to secure the winning goal in the closing minutes, the points were eventually shared. Elversberg’s goalkeeper, Kristof, made a vital save in the 89th minute, parrying away a potential late goal from Akiyama and preventing a dramatic reversal.
The draw means that Elversberg remains in fourth place and continues its challenge in the promotion race, while Darmstadt, despite the draw, slips to fifth place and has lost significant ground with a five-point deficit.
