Ines Schwerdtner, Co-Chair of The Left Party, stated that she anticipates a call for early federal elections. Speaking to RTL/n-tv on Thursday, she confessed to having no confidence in the current federal government.
When asked if she was prepared for premature elections, Schwerdtner responded by saying that such an event is necessary because the government appears so fractured that it cannot even implement necessary major reforms. She criticized the presented budget, calling it full of speculative or unsupported allocations, and expressed doubt that a solution could be reached. She emphasized that while she wishes the process would become orderly, her overall faith in the federal government remains nonexistent.
Shwerdtner asserted that the bipartisan consensus to label the government the most unpopular was well-deserved. She also leveled criticism at CDU leader Friedrich Merz, pointing out the perceived contradiction in his claims of difficulty, especially given that he himself has utilized private insurance throughout his life. Finally, she targeted the government’s push toward a health reform, arguing that this measure disproportionately affects those covered by statutory insurance.
