Fritz Güntzler, the financial policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, issued a warning to state premiers, stating that their actions could jeopardize the planned tax reform. Speaking to “Bild” (Saturday edition), Güntzler criticized the states’ rejection of a relief premium, calling it a significant liability for the proposed tax reduction. He explicitly stated that any party unwilling to compensate for potential tax shortfalls of 1.1 billion euros should not be discussing a comprehensive tax reform. Güntzler emphasized that citizens and businesses desperately need real financial relief. He demanded that the state premiers of the CDU and CSU commit to supporting a major tax overhaul. Furthermore, he challenged these state leaders, asking them to clarify whether their desire for a large tax reform had remained in place, or if their prior consent given when the coalition treaty was ratified a year earlier was now nullified.
