Deutsche Bahn to Launch Major Cross-Continental Rail Link Across Scandinavia by 2028

Deutsche Bahn plans to establish a direct railway link spanning from Berlin all the way up into Scandinavia, working in partnership with the national railways of Norway and Denmark. Starting in the summer of 2028, these trains will travel through Hamburg, Copenhagen, Malmö, and Gothenburg, ultimately reaching Oslo, the Norwegian capital.

Michael Peterson, the head of long-distance transport, noted that the route will connect three major capital cities via rail. With an approximate length of 1,000 kilometers, the journey is set to become one of the longest in Europe. The service is scheduled to run two train pairs daily, taking between 14 and 15 hours to complete.

For this line, the new ICE L train set will be utilized, offering a more comfortable travel experience due to its low-floor boarding design compared to other rolling stock. This direct connection is part of ten pilot projects initiated by the EU Commission aimed at expanding and facilitating cross-border passenger traffic across Europe.
