Economist Gabriel Felbermayr argues that the German government shows deficiencies in how it utilizes economic expertise. Speaking to RTL and ntv, he stated that he does not feel the government is sufficiently listening to economic advice. Although he acknowledged some positive, isolated signs from politicians-such as specific policy statements-he noted that overall, there is a lack of consistent implementation. Fraustrated by this gap, Felbermayr remarked that recognizing a necessary reform is meaningless if it does not lead to tangible action. In his view, the scope of reform required is enormous, yet “nothing is happening”. Furthermore, a major concern he raised is the deficit of clear economic policy direction. Companies, he stressed, need stable and defined legal frameworks to be able to resume investment. Felbermayr, who recently joined the Expert Council advising the government, emphasized that concrete changes are desperately needed.
