With the state election in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern roughly four months away, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) remains the clear strongest political force, according to an Infratest survey commissioned by the NDR and published on Wednesday. The AfD recorded support at 36 percent, with the ruling SPD placing second with 27 percent.
These figures show minor shifts in public opinion compared to the January survey. The AfD increased its approval rating by one percentage point, while the Social Democrats saw a larger gain of two points.
Conversely, the CDU suffered a noticeable drop, falling from 13 percent in January to 10 percent. This decline was noted as the most severe for a state-level party.
Other parties also saw variations. The Left Party increased its percentage by one point, reaching 13 percent, while the BSW lost one point, settling at 5 percent. The Greens remained unchanged at 4 percent, a figure that makes their continued representation in a new state parliament questionable. All other parties accumulated 5 percent of the vote. This category includes the FDP, which, despite still having representation in the current parliament, was not listed individually in the Infratest poll.
