The cooperative effort between T-Systems and Google Cloud regarding sovereign cloud solutions appears to be undergoing a restructure, according to reports citing industry sources published by the Handelsblatt. Google is reportedly already in discussions with potential new partners to create a sovereign offering within Germany. According to two insiders, a candidate from France is involved, and these discussions are at an advanced stage. A spokesperson for Deutsche Telekom informed the newspaper that the company is continually developing its offerings to meet evolving customer demands, emphasizing that existing contracts and ongoing customer solutions will continue to be supported. However, a representative from Google declined to comment on “rumors concerning specific business relationships”.
In 2021, Telekom and Google originally announced their partnership. The core of the agreement was an “air-gapped system”-a cloud infrastructure that is physically separated from the open internet, designed to meet the highest security requirements. Despite initial optimism, according to insiders, this specific offering has never been sold to a client. The telecommunications spokesperson noted that, due to confidentiality guidelines, specific customer figures cannot be disclosed.
