Ukraine Meets German Security Officials to Accelerate Air Defense Against Russia’s Drone Attacks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Chief of the Chancellery Thorsten Frei and the President of the Federal Intelligence Service, Martin Jäger. According to Zelenskyy, who stated the visit on Thursday, the encounter represented a “significant sign of support” following Russia’s massive drone attack on Ukraine.

During the meeting, officials discussed accelerating existing air defense agreements to better shield Ukraine from such acts of terror. Zelenskyy noted that Germany has repeatedly contributed to strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and stated, “we hope for such a leading role now as well”.

Furthermore, the discussion covered the specific drone agreement that Ukraine had previously proposed to Germany. The Ukrainian President emphasized his gratitude, stating, “We are ready to support those who have supported us”. He added a more demanding note regarding negotiations, insisting that “it would be fair to open all negotiating blocks for Ukraine-we have met all requirements. We must capitalize on the opportunity coming in the next month”.

The backdrop to these discussions was the recent wave of massive drone onslaughts launched by Russia against Ukraine. Zelenskyy reported that during these attack waves, the Russians employed 1,567 drones and 56 missiles of various types.
