Stranded Narwhal Confirmed Dead After Coastal Movements in the Baltic Sea

The Danish environmental agency has confirmed that the dead bowhead whale found off Anholt Island is the same animal that had previously been observed stranded in the Baltic Sea. According to the Danish news agency Ritzau, the whale’s identity was conclusively verified using a transmitter attached to its back. This particular whale was initially released in May in the Skagerrak, following private investors who covered the expenses associated with transporting it from the Baltic Sea to the North Sea. The carcass has been spotted near Anholt Island in the Kattegat since Thursday, located approximately 75 meters offshore. Although the Danish environmental agency had initially expressed doubts regarding the whale’s identity, those doubts have since been resolved.
