Former US National Security Advisor Backs Military Action Against Iran, Recommends Opening Strait of Hormuz

Herbert Raymond McMaster, the former National Security Advisor to US President Donald Trump, has publicly voiced support for a potential US war against Iran. Speaking to “Die Zeit”, McMaster stated, “Yes, I would have advised Trump on this war”.

In his analysis, he pointed out that Iran has been systematically expanding its missile and drone stockpiles over the years. McMaster argues that the regime uses this massive arsenal as a shield to achieve the worst weapon in the world: a nuclear weapon in the hands of a theocratic dictatorship, he warned, would be “truly unacceptable”.

The retired general also claimed that the Iranian regime is currently significantly weakened. Regarding the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, McMaster argued that the choke point is only blocked because the United States has not attempted to reopen it itself. He confidently stated that, “if necessary, we must secure it militarily and make it traversable”.

When addressing the remarks made by Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), who suggested the US had been “humiliated” by the Iranian regime, the former US advisor sharply advised caution, stating that criticizing Donald Trump was “not a good idea”.

McMaster’s background includes serving as the US presidential security advisor from 2017 until his resignation in 2018. He currently holds positions, including a fellowship at the Hoover Institution, a prominent US think tank. Despite his prominence, his professional relationship with Donald Trump has generally been considered strained.
