State Minister Pledges Tax Relief for Single Parents Amid Coalition Reforms

Sven Schulze, the Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt and a member of the CDU party, announced plans for a Federal Council initiative aimed at providing tax relief for single parents. The proposal stems from the reform processes of the current CDU-SPD coalition.

Speaking to the news magazine Focus, the CDU politician criticized the current focus being modeled on a single family unit, arguing that the reality is far more diverse. He pointed out the significant contributions of single parents-who include many women but also men-describing their efforts as tremendous. Schulze highlighted that single parents who manage appointments, school parent meetings, and maintain employment alongside full-time childcare face considerable difficulty. Such personal and financial strain, he argued, should be recognized through tax benefits.

Schulze emphasized that ultimately, single parents require greater overall support. He expressed his desire to tackle this issue through the aforementioned Federal Council initiative, stating that providing tax relief would be a crucial measure, extending its importance far beyond the parents residing in Saxony-Anhalt.
