Infineon Halts New Factory Construction, Betting on Existing Sites and Strategic Growth

Infineon is putting an end to its multi-billion euro expansion spree for new construction. Alexander Gorski, the company’s Head of Production, informed the “Handelsblatt” that the chip consortium will not be building any further factories in the foreseeable future. He stated that the company is well positioned for future growth using its three existing major sites, along with support from external partners.

In the near term, Infineon will open its newest manufacturing facility in Dresden, which costs five billion euros. Production here is starting one quarter earlier than originally planned. Gorski explained that the ramp-up speed for the new module is being executed twice as fast as in previous projects, meaning the factory will quickly reach full capacity.

According to the manager, the rapid completion of this plant in the summer is a positive indicator for the German location. It demonstrates that major investments can be implemented successfully and quickly in Germany. Furthermore, the workforce is ready to begin work in the summer months. The 1,000 new positions in Dresden are mostly filled, and many of these employees were trained internally by the company.
