On Thursday evening, one of the suspects involved in the planned attack on a Taylor Swift concert scheduled for Vienna in August 2024 was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The jury at the Wiener Neustadt Regional Court found the man guilty of organizing the attack and forming a terrorist cell belonging to the self-proclaimed “Islamic State” (IS) with two other individuals. His co-defendant was handed a 12-year sentence for participating in an attempted murder. The three planned concerts, which were set to host 200,000 attendees at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, were ultimately canceled after authorities successfully uncovered the assassination plots. Reports indicate that the suspected primary perpetrator had planned to use knives and explosives to kill as many people as possible.
