The German Pension Insurance (DRV) anticipates that the contributory rate for pensions will increase in 2028 more rapidly than previously projected. According to internal DRV figures published by the newspaper “Bild” the contribution rate for both employees and employers is expected to jump from the current 18.6 percent to 19.9 percent in 2028, surpassing the earlier forecast of 19.8 percent.
For 2029, the DRV predicts an further increase to 20 percent. The gradual rise continues into the 2030s, with the rate expected to reach 20.2 percent in 2031, 20.5 percent in 2032, 20.7 percent in 2033, and 20.9 percent in 2034.
Starting in 2036, the DRV calculates that the contribution rate will stabilize at 21.1 percent until 2040. This represents a shift from prior planning, which had projected a rise to 21.2 percent by 2039.
