Hesse’s Interior Minister, Roman Poseck (CDU), is campaigning for stricter controls, advocating that the location of individuals obligated to leave the country can be tracked using their mobile phones. Speaking to Politico, Poseck stated, “Those who willfully evade deportation must experience the consequences of our rule of law”. The CDU politician indicated that he intends to push for this measure at the Interior Ministers’ Conference in Hamburg. Specifically, he wants the police and foreigners authorities to be authorized to locate the mobile phones of those obligated to leave, provided clearly defined prerequisites are met. Hesse has already submitted a motion related to this proposal for the upcoming Interior Ministers’ meetings scheduled for two weeks from now. According to Poseck, there are over 13,000 people under deportation obligation in the state of Hesse. The Interior Minister noted that the most common reason deportations fail is simply that the concerned person cannot be located.
