FDP Politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann Shares Childhood Rebellion and Views on Faith

Politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann described her rebellious youth, stating that the biggest mischief she committed was when she escaped her boarding school with two friends and went hitchhiking. This incident stemmed from her long-held desire to be a “hippie” as she attended a Catholic girls’ boarding school on Lake Constance during her middle and lower school years.

Regarding the political maneuvering involving Wolfgang Kubicki, Strack-Zimmermann explained that her husband, with whom she has been married for 46 years, knew nothing about her candidacy. He only found out from the news after she had already delivered her campaign speech. She emphasized that the foundation of a successful partnership lies in finding a shared rhythm and enjoying like-minded things, but more fundamentally, mutual respect is key-especially respecting that one or both partners have passions the other might not share. Her husband, she revealed, had simply told her after the candidacy, “It was good that you did it”.

The deeply religious Catholic also shared her reflections on faith with Focus. She stated that “God is not fair” arguing that if He were, no people would become ill and no nations would attack one another. In her view, God entrusted humanity with the Earth so that they could lead their own lives and take responsibility for them. Therefore, Strack-Zimmermann believes that humans are the actual problem on Earth. She concluded by imagining that God would look upon the planet and think, “My goodness, what is going on there?”
