Misbah Khan, the Deputy Chairwoman of the Green parliamentary group, is demanding sufficient financial resources to support language development in early childhood settings (Kitas). Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” regarding the new draft law approved by the federal cabinet-which includes provisions for language testing for four-year-olds-Khan stated that effective language support in the kindergarten age is a crucial basis for achieving greater educational equity. However, she stressed that financial resources are necessary for this support to be effective, arguing that tests alone cannot solve the issue. There must be adequate trained professionals and resources available to effectively assist children with language deficiencies. Looking at Federal Minister for Education, Karin Prien (CDU), Khan added that while the Union and SPD parties are gradually cutting family-related benefits, thereby increasing the burdens on parents and children, Minister Prien intends to introduce mandatory language tests without simultaneously providing the necessary funds for effective language promotion. She views this situation as evidence of misplaced priorities.
