Kubicki Slams DGB Mandatory Pension Plan: ‘Unrealistic Idea,’ Warns Against Economic Burden

FDP Chairman Wolfgang Kubicki dismissed DGB Chairwoman Yasmin Fahimi’s proposal for a mandatory company pension as an ill-conceived idea. Speaking to the newspapers of Funke Mediengruppe, he called for greater flexibility in retirement planning-even concerning corporate pensions-and strongly opposed any additional mandated pressure. He warned that threatening the economy with further burdens right now would be disastrous.

Kubicki also indirectly suggested that Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) consider excluding Fahimi from the planned reform summit next week. The FDP head stated that if the Chancellor truly prioritized Germany’s economic standing, he should tell Ms. Fahimi to remain away from such proposals.

Fahimi’s suggestion involved introducing a mandatory company pension as supplementary retirement coverage, which would require employers to contribute to the fund.
