A majority of German citizens support the idea of the CDU establishing agreements with the Linkspartei in the future. According to a Forsa poll conducted for the broadcasters RTL and ntv, 54 percent favor such cooperation, provided it enables the formation of a state government that does not involve the AfD. Conversely, 38 percent disapprove of this collaboration.
Within the CDU and CSU base, a clear majority also backs this approach; 63 percent approve of agreements with the Linke in Eastern Germany, while 34 percent are against it. In Eastern Germany itself, support registers slightly lower at 49 percent compared to 55 percent in the West.
Opposition largely comes from the AfD camp, where 89 percent of members oppose this type of cooperation. In stark contrast, 81 percent of SPD supporters, 86 percent of the Green party supporters, and even 97 percent of Linke members support it.
