The SPD parliamentary group has supported the DGB’s proposal for mandatory company retirement plans. According to Dagmar Schmidt, Deputy Chairwoman of the group, greater financial resources are necessary to ensure adequate security in old age. She told newspapers from the Funke Media Group that employers would need to contribute at least an equal amount toward these funds. Consequently, they welcome the DGB’s suggestion as being heading in the right direction. The proposal was originally put forward by DGB leader Yasmin Fahimi, who advocated for a mandatory corporate pension scheme that would require contributions from both employees and employers.
