Franziska Brantner, a member of the Green Party, stated to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” that having a woman as the Federal President is long overdue. According to Brantner, the nation requires a personality who can decisively defend democracy, provide a clear direction, and foster societal cohesion.
Echoing this sentiment, Jasmina Hostert, the women’s political spokesperson for the SPD parliamentary group, affirmed to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” that the next head of state should certainly be a woman. Hostert stressed that it is high time a woman occupied the highest office, noting that women have been responsible contributors in politics and society for decades, and this must be reflected at the state level. Brantner shares Hostert’s view, characterizing the selection of a female president as overdue.
Earlier, Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder nominated Ilse Aigner (both are CSU party members) as a candidate for the office of Federal President during a CSU party conference. As of yet, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) has reportedly not made a decision regarding the matter.
