Merz Slams SPD Over Infrastructure Blockade, Demands Urgent Passage of Key Act

Friedrich Merz of the CDU has publicly accused the SPD of obstructing progress on the Infrastructure Future Law, which is designed to speed up major construction projects. According to reports from the “Rheinische Post”, during a meeting of the parliamentary group, Merz noted that the law has remained in the Bundestag for six months.

Merz stated explicitly, “I must say that my patience is running out, and so is the patience of the Social Democrats.” He stressed that it is unacceptable for the law not to be passed because it is being coupled with the Nature Conservation Area Requirement Law. He criticized the approach, claiming that the way resources are being managed is one that is extremely difficult to justify. He reminded his colleagues that commitments were made to create the necessary legal framework so that allocated funds could actually be utilized for construction projects. Yet, this law has now been stalled for nearly half a year.

Pressing for accelerated action, Merz insisted that the law must be published in the Federal Law Gazette before the parliamentary summer recess if Germany is to genuinely advance its construction efforts. The CDU leader concluded by stating that the tendency to “overload” legislation with irrelevant topics must cease.
