Amidst the ongoing political debate with the Union regarding the appropriate reform direction following the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, SPD faction vice-chairwoman Dagmar Schmidt is advocating for a comprehensive care reform that includes relief for family members. Speaking to the Rheinische Post, Schmidt noted that when an individual requires care, an entire family’s life changes. She stated that in such circumstances, people must be able to rely on the care system to function properly, to receive support quickly and without complication, and not to be left alone with ever-increasing costs. Schmidt stressed that this goal remains consistent regardless of the election result, and they will fight for it during negotiations. Her ultimate aim is a care system that eases daily life, is rooted in the local community, relieves the burden on family caregivers, and assures reliable, high-quality service. Simultaneously, she argues that the long-term stabilization and fairer funding of the health insurance for care must be achieved. Schmidt concluded that they intend to curb the rise in financial burdens and ensure that good care remains affordable for everyone in the future.
