Germany Welcomes US-Iran Deal Heralding Diplomatic Breakthrough for Regional Stability

Following President Donald Trump’s announcement that the United States had reached a deal with Iran, Friedrich Merz (CDU) reacted with relief. In a statement released late the previous night, Merz noted that the federal government welcomes the agreement between the United States and Iran and congratulated both Trump and the Iranian side on the “diplomatic breakthrough.”

According to Merz, the agreement holds the potential to pave the way for a recovery in the global economy and stabilize the region. He stressed that focused implementation of the terms was now necessary, emphasizing that the Strait of Hormuz must remain permanently and completely open for free shipping. Furthermore, subsequent negotiations must ensure that Iran verifiably ends its military nuclear program. The CDU figure also demanded that “no further attacks against Israel and other neighbors in the region take place.”

The German federal government affirmed its willingness to support and promote all relevant diplomatic efforts, maintaining close contact with the United States, European partners, and regional nations.

The agreement details were previously shared by President Trump via his platform, Truth Social, where he stated, “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete.” Trump authorized the “fee-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz” and the immediate lifting of the United States’ naval blockade. The President urged, “Ships of the world, start your engines! Let the oil flow.”

A similar joint declaration was simultaneously released late in the night by Germany, France, Great Britain, and Italy.
