Christoph de Vries, the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of the Interior (CDU), strongly condemned the arson attacks carried out against his private vehicle and the car belonging to the head of a police precinct in Hamburg. According to De Vries to the “Welt,” these attacks, which intruded far into their private lives, once again demonstrate the ruthlessness and fanaticism of the left-extremist scene. A supposed confession letter had been published alongside these acts.
De Vries also called for a heightened effort to combat left-extremism. The CDU politician stated that it is absolutely correct for the current federal government to focus more intensely on investigating and combating left-extremism and left-wing terrorism. He added that left-extremism also poses a significant threat to the democratic basic order.
In addition, De Vries thanked the security services for their work. He expressed full confidence in the investigating authorities and sincerely thanked the police for their professional and committed support.
