Prior to a hearing scheduled for Monday in the Health Committee, the Sozialverband Deutschland (SoVD) voiced serious criticism regarding the proposed savings package for statutory health insurance. Michaela Engelmeier, the chairwoman of the SoVD board, stated to the “Rheinische Post” on Monday that the health insurance savings plan runs the risk of creating social imbalance, disproportionately burdening those who pay contributions and insured individuals. She noted that these groups have already been significantly strained in recent years due to rising premiums, restrictions on services, and increased personal contributions. Against this background, the SoVD explicitly rejects the planned increases in co-payments and the introduction of partial sick leave eligibility. The SoVD leader further stressed that health insurance requires a solidarity-based financing model, reliable participation from the federal government, the fair inclusion of high earners, and a genuine balance between statutory and private insurance.
