Steffen Bilger, the parliamentary board member for the CDU parliamentary group, is calling on the federal government to pursue a consistent course of reform, especially in light of the ongoing Day of Industry. In interviews with RTL and ntv, Bilger stated that economic growth must be the top priority.
While acknowledging that some progress has been made in the government’s first year, he emphasized that this is insufficient and that the momentum in reforming policies must continue. He argues that the government needs to specifically address the issues that the economy highlighted at the Day of Industry: energy costs, labor costs, and bureaucracy. These issues must immediately be placed at the center of the political agenda.
Regarding energy costs, Bilger mentioned that certain relief measures have already been put in place, noting the ability to reduce electricity taxes and lower grid fees. However, he remained firm, stating: “Nevertheless, Germany remains an expensive location when it comes to energy costs.”
On the topic of labor costs, Bilger sees a need for further action, specifically referring to reforms aimed at preventing continuous increases in contributions. The goal, he stressed, must be overall relief, not further burden. Furthermore, the CDU politician pressed for reduction in bureaucracy, stating, “We all know about bureaucracy; we have to deliver.”
Bilger concluded that if these three major areas are successfully tackled and good frameworks are provided for businesses, it will create the necessary conditions to bring back investment into Germany.
