Sepp Müller, the CDU’s Deputy Chair of the Union parliamentary group in the Bundestag, stated that any potential income tax reform must first be contingent upon available financial leeway. Speaking to the “Stimme am Morgen” talk format on Welt TV on Friday, Müller emphasized that his immediate priority is the joint effort to stabilize social security contributions.
He argues that this stabilization is essential for helping small and medium incomes and, particularly, the middle class. While Müller acknowledges the importance of income tax reform for the middle class, he stresses that the foundational step toward easing the burden on smaller and medium earners is stabilizing the social insurance system. This includes mitigating the ongoing increases in contributions to statutory health insurance, long-term care insurance, and pension insurance, preventing them from continuing to rise uncontrollably.
Müller concluded that once this financial stability has been achieved, the party would then be fully open to pursuing income tax reform.
