German Chancellor’s Office Struggles with Sweltering Heat Due to Lack of Comprehensive Air Conditioning

According to a government spokesperson cited by the “Rheinische Post”, Chancellor Friedrich Merz and his staff at the federal chancellery are struggling with the extreme heat, as the building does not possess comprehensive air conditioning.

Although the Chancellor’s private office is climate-controlled, details about the specific system remain unavailable. In areas where the government headquarters becomes particularly warm, cooling measures include the provision of fans and water dispensers for employees. Furthermore, various structural techniques are employed to moderate the temperature; however, sources within the chancellery admit these efforts are not adequate during periods of severe heat.

Looking ahead, the planned expansion of the chancellery campus in Kanzlerpark will incorporate significant structural changes. The government spokesperson confirmed that the new facilities will feature a specialized heating and cooling canopy designed to regulate the temperature within the office spaces, which will be supplemented by a full ventilation system.
