Civil Service Union Demands Enhanced Security for Public Workers After Deadly Stade Attack

Following the fatal attack in Stade, Volker Geyer, the federal chairman of the Association of Civil Servants (DBB), is demanding increased protection for public service employees. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” regarding the incident where six employees of a mother-child facility were killed on Monday, Geyer stated: “We are deeply shaken and we are angry. We have been pointing out for years the growing number of acts of violence against public service employees.”

He emphasized that these are the people who uphold the state for all of us, and therefore they deserve special protection. According to Geyer, the immediate responsibility lies with local departmental leaders and politicians.

However, he also stressed that it is the responsibility of all citizens. The chairman of the Civil Servants’ Association criticized the growing societal issues, saying, “The morals in Germany are decaying, egoism is marching, and the propensity for violence is rising.”

Regarding next steps, Geyer called for the perpetrator to be quickly judged and imprisoned. While stressing that the circumstances must be fully investigated to draw concrete conclusions, he urged action on several levels: improving security in state institutions, reorganizing social work, and strengthening societal prevention efforts against violence.
