Deutsche Bahn has announced a phased introduction of voluntary body cameras for its employees in long-distance passenger transport. The corporation unveiled the measure on Wednesday, which will initially encompass more than 2,000 staff members, including those working in train attendant services, onboard catering, and at the reception areas of DB lounges.
Michael Peterson, Head of Long-Distance Passenger Transport, stated, “Travel in long-distance services is safe. To ensure that both passengers and employees continue to feel secure and well-accompanied in our trains, we are integrating body cameras as another safety measure.”
Manfred Scholze, Chairman of the Joint Works Council, described the introduction as an “important signal.” He supported the rollout and welcomed the fact that the use of the body cameras remains voluntary.
Before the body cameras are used as technical aid tools, employees will undergo mandatory training. This training covers usage conditions, legal frameworks, requirements for identification and labeling, and the practical operation and handling of the devices.
